Advanced Analytics in Support of the FlexSNG Gasification-Methanation Process at Large Capacity

In this webinar, we will explore innovative analytical methods or the systematic analysis of a large-capacity bioSNG process called FlexSNG. The methods are particular to high-capacity biofuel production processes when integrated into a pre-existing site.

Issues critical to the advanced analytics approach include, for example:

  • Lowering biomass feedstock costs even at large biomass volumes, considering harvesting processes, feedstock flexibility, and biomass delivery optimization.
  • Being biomass flexible opens-up opportunities for biomass feedstock cost reduction, however complexities and cost in biomass pretreatment.
  • The process is capital intensive so capital cost reductions are critical, and small differences in yields and/or process availability can significantly impact cash flows once the process is running.
  • The manner that the process is integrated with adjacent processing facilities, via industrial symbiosis, is critical to the overall process economics and especially the robustness of the business model.

There will be a total of five speakers presenting their work. Rozita Ebrahimi will overview her project on the collaborative integration of forestry, agricultural, and MSW value chains to optimize biomass-to-bioenergy logistics, critical to the FlexSNG process assessment. Asudeh Shahidi will overview her project on operational route planning considering collaboration, critical to the FlexSNG process assessment so that the daily routing of forest, agriculture, and municipal solid waste feedstocks is optimized through a truck-sharing strategy. Yasaman Kazemi will present a framework for identifying suitable pretreatment trains to enhance the performance of the FlexSNG gasification process, from low-risk options to innovative trains for mixed feedstocks. Tunet Olivier will overview her project on evaluating industrial symbiosis scenarios, which is critical to the FlexSNG process assessment for optimising its integration into existing and potential future industrial networks. Simone Martel will provide an overview of her project on the techno-economic evaluation of the FlexSNG process, critical for assessing the feasibility and performance of the process in study cases.
